Reminiscence is a piece that unpacks childhood memories of my sister and I that I hold dearly. I distinctly remember my family’s old house: the tall grass that we would roam around, the cherry blossom trees that would bloom in the spring, the monarch butterflies and the bluebirds all around us, being a kid and not having a care in the world, and feelings of pure happiness and magic. I often reflect back on those memories, and I wish that I could go back in time for just a moment. I chose to use pastel colors that give the piece a light, happy, and mellow feel. The colors are almost fading, which adds to the sense that these memories are fading more and more as we grow older. There is a surrealist aspect to the piece as well, with the butterflies being flowers and with the colorful flowy sort of entity throughout, which represents the memories flowing and fading away with time.
